STRANGE ALIEN DEVICES

These strange devices of unknown origin appeared on alternate Earth in 1992, and have been kept under guarded study by the governments of the world. Some think this top-secret cover up may be linked to the death of some very important political figures, and several theories abound as to whether this technology may have originated from the same source as the Internet, but one thing is certain - highly lucrative commercial uses for the devices were discovered, and the governments of the world have a tremendous stake in this.

After more machines appeared, the knowledge became public, and by 1998, it became possible for ordinary citizens to use the service to send packages of any size in a fraction of a second to any location in the universe, quickly putting Fed X and the other express mail services out of business. This, of course, made the Internet look like kid's stuff, because people could pay the government a handsome fee, and soon have their cars, homes, and anything else they owned get zapped wherever they wanted. The utility companies that contracted with the governments made billions selling electrons for these power hungry devices, and their stocks went through the roof once the patents cleared on coma tanks.

The coma tanks allow biological creatures such as humans the ability to safely travel in a special "soup closet" that keeps them preserved in a coma state for six weeks, floating in a thick shock-absorbing nutrient-rich liquid. After arriving at their destination and waking from their coma, they can step out of the tank and find themselves born into a new dimension.

Many theories about the alternate dimensions abound, but few have yet traveled to them and lived to come back to Earth and tell about it. Music videos have recently been zapped back to TV producers here on Earth from a place called the "Distortion Dimension", but to date, no producer has made it back home alive. It appears they are either dying soon after arrival there, or having too much fun to even think about coming home. In any case, the videos being sent back from there have made it big on TV, and music video producers around the world are struggling to get the funds to get their one-way ticket booked, making it one of today's hottest alternate destinations.
